Day 11 – consistency in change

2 Sep

What I’d really like to write about today is how grumpy I am and how my mood over the past three hours has deteriorated into something to be desired. I’ve allowed myself to become discouraged today by off the cuff comments alluding to my age and place in life and have tripped into a dip of self pity. So much so that I left the house just to go buy some chocolate. Ah emotional eating.

But rather than diving into that nonsense, I’m going to share a verse I read in my devotional this evening that hit home like a Barry Bonds steroid-loaded grand slam.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace…” ~ Hebrews 13: 8

Everything in this world is variable. Nothing remains constant forever. Nothing, except God. I’m someone who used to resist change with heels dug firmly into the ground. However, God had something else in store for me over this past year and a half as He’s walked me through the longest season of transition I’ve ever endured – a season that I continue to travel through. And it’s through Christ’s ever gracious consistency that I have become accustomed to change and actually learned to embrace it. It’s almost with giddy anticipation that I wait for what’s next. But with transformation comes peaks and valleys and it is so wonderfully reassuring to know that regardless of circumstances, Christ is the same today as He was yesterday and will be forever.
