Getting Ready

16 May

I can not believe how fast May is flying by. Tomorrow marks three weeks until I leave! After work and on weekends I try and cross as many ‘to do’ things off my list as possible, but for every one I cross off, it seems that I add three more. I’m sure everything will all come together by the time I leave though. Tomorrow I will be checking a huge item off the list… my second cousin-in-law, the very handy mechanic, will be giving my car a thorough once over to make sure it’s safe for an 8,000 mile plus journey. I am hoping and praying that aside from new tires, wiper blades and an oil change, it’s good to go.

I am getting really excited to go… and a bit nervous. I do have a plan (more or less), but am fully aware that there will be a certain amount of ‘winging it’ along the way. This is the first time that I have ever traveled so I don’t know what to expect entirely, which is part of the thrill of it all (or so I hear). But honestly, even amongst some of my nervousness and unknown surrounding this journey, when I think about what I am about to do, I am so looking forward to being free of a set routine and schedule, meeting new people in unexpected circumstances, breaths of renewed inspiration and those still moments when it’s just me and God.

This is my prayer (borrowed from Sue Monk Kidd)…

“To be fully human, fully myself,

to accept all that I am, all that You envision,

this is my prayer, walk with me out to the rim of life,

beyond security.

Take me to the exquisite edge of courage

and release me to become.”

Three weeks.

Just found the answer to my previous question in your other post. Hope you have a safe and fun trip, and really achieve what you meant to do. Good luck Jamie!
